Winter 2016
with Eric Dorfman, Director of Carnegie Museum of Natural History
April 3-6, 2017
Join Carnegie Museum of Natural History Director Eric Dorfman on a trip to California’s majestic Central Coast. Often referred to as “the American Riviera,” this picturesque region of jagged sea cliffs, rolling wine country, and mysterious inlets has long attracted naturalists and artists alike with its striking beauty and diverse ecosystems.Experience the wonder of the region’s scientific and cultural sights. Enjoy a privately guided tour of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve where you can listen to the calls of the sea lions or catch a glimpse of migrating gray whales. Have the rare opportunity to partake in a before-hours tour of the venerated Monterey Bay Aquarium before heading to Moss Landing Marine Labs for an exclusive visit with Lab Director Jim Harvey. Other activities include exploring the freshwater marshes and massive oak forests of Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, a private tour of the Point Sur Lighthouse, which overlooks one of the “greatest meetings of land and water in the world,” and view the coastal coves and abundant 300-foot redwoods in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.

“Between the amazing accommodations, transportation and itinerary, we could not be more pleased with our experience on our first Carnegie Museums trip. As a mother/daughter duo, we had the opportunity to learn about incredible artwork and the cities we visited without any planning or logistics to manage. It allowed us time to bond and discover things together, creating memories that will last a lifetime.”
