Carnegie Museum of Art

Our vision centers on expanding the imaginative capacity of museum work, catalyzing creative agency, and enriching Pittsburgh’s artistic life to elevate our influence both locally and on the world stage.

Redefine the Visitor Experience
Through our campus redesign, we will transform our visitor experience in order to foster community connectivity, inspiration, inclusivity and welcome while preserving our historic assets. Visitors will immerse themselves in a reconfigured museum with updated entrances, amenities, and outdoor spaces. Our new sculpture garden along Forbes Avenue, our refurbished Sculpture Court, and our Heinz Architectural Center will boast exciting, contemporary experiences and events.

Catalyze Artistic Innovation
Enriched by the legacy of our collection and the world-renowned Carnegie International, we will establish ourselves as a revered global platform for artistic innovation. Both endowments and one-time support for the ongoing Artistic Program will keep Pittsburgh at the forefront of contemporary art. Additionally, a full-scale reinstallation of the Scaife Galleries will leverage new art histories and points of engagement based on our expansive permanent collection.

Build Capacity to Serve the Regional Arts Ecology
To build our expertise and heighten our position as a leader in regional arts careers, we will develop a dynamic workforce, expand thought leadership roles, forge symbiotic partnerships with fellow local employers, and reinvest in our responsive educational initiatives. We will stand at the forefront of making the visual arts more accessible as a professional path and as an educational resource by endowing staff positions and our renowned, age-inclusive public programs.
