The Factory: Creative Arts Center will advance the mission of The Andy Warhol Museum through innovative, interdisciplinary arts experiences and serve as a community hub where artists, residents, and partners can gather, create, and explore Andy Warhol’s legacy in new ways.
Marking a new era for the museum as it prepares to celebrate Andy Warhol’s 100th birthday in 2028, The Factory will showcase the diverse forms of art and media in which Warhol thrived and complement the museum’s world-class collection, extensive archives, and award-winning programs.
As the flagship campus development of The Pop District, The Factory is designed to host performances and concerts featuring local and touring artists, art installations, film and media, and community events. The 30,000+ square foot venue is a flexible space that can be transformed to hold up to approximately 800+ standing room guests.
Combined with the earned revenue potential from ticketed events and private event rentals, a programming model that is uniquely “Warhol” will attract a broad array of users and distinguish The Factory from competitors in the region.
Inspired by Warhol’s Silver Factory, programming and activations in The Factory will prioritize areas of Warhol’s legacy that the museum aims to expand:
- live music performance
- dance, theater, comedy, and multidisciplinary performances
- immersive installations
- film and media screenings
- visible exploration of the museum’s collection and archives
- space for artists and community members to gather
The Factory will also bolster the impact of the museum’s hallmark learning and workforce development programs by offering young people a new space to explore an even wider breadth of creative industries and put their new skills into practice.
Finally, by activating the eastern North Shore neighborhood and drawing visitors from the region and beyond, The Factory complements major investments like the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s $600 million plan to revitalize Downtown, Riverlife’s Completing the Loop initiative, and the Cultural District’s new Arts Landing on the opposite shore of the Allegheny River.
With your support, The Factory will serve as an anchor for Pittsburgh’s creative ecosystem with a lasting impact on the museum, local artists and residents, and the region for generations to come.
