As the nation’s first museum dedicated to collecting the art of its time, Carnegie Museum of Art is a convener for Pittsburgh and the world. Through the visionary Carnegie International, our rich collection, artist-centered exhibitions, co-created educational resources, and dynamic public programs, we surface questions with both local and global relevance, building on history’s lessons to contemplate, envision, and help manifest brave and imaginative futures.
Our vision centers on expanding the imaginative capacity of museum work, catalyzing creative agency, and enriching Pittsburgh’s artistic life to elevate our influence both locally and on the world stage.
OUR BUILDING
Creating welcoming outdoor spaces for gathering, reflection, and signature public programs that invite art into daily life, and reimagining the Heinz Architectural Center, enhancing the visitor experience and increasing access for study and research
OUR PROGRAM
Present and expand our Artistic Program through exhibitions, including the landmark Carnegie International, and opportunities to learn and create through education and public programming
OUR SUSTAINABILITY
Strengthen our role as a leader in regional arts careers by developing a diverse workforce, expanding thought leadership, building partnerships with local employers, and reinvesting in responsive educational initiatives—while increasing access to the visual arts through endowed positions and age-inclusive public programs as a professional path and as an educational resource by endowing staff positions and our renowned, age-inclusive public programs.

Opportunities to support our vision
Revitalize the Grounds

We intend to open spaces and create pedestrian gathering sites that combine accessible works of art with sustainable natural beauty, further establishing Carnegie Museum of Art as a holistic environment in which art is discoverable everywhere.
Galleries Reimagined

A comprehensive reimagination of the Scaife Galleries collection display leverages new art histories and points of engagement, repositioning the collection as an even more relevant 21st-century resource.
59th & 60th Carnegie Internationals

Inaugurated in 1896, the Carnegie International is the longest-running exhibition of international art in North America. Each edition brings together new commissions and projects by established and emerging artists working internationally, domestically, and locally.
Exhibitions Endowments

Endowment support will ensure the realization of the 2020-2027 Artistic Program and the continued impact of our dynamic artistic program into the future.
Transform the Scaife Lobby

Planned renovations to the main artery of the Oakland museums will prioritize openness and mobility, making it an organic location for our community to gather.
Education Endowment

Endowment support will help expand the impact and reach of education programs, and sustain and bolster the museum’s established workforce-development programs for young people.
